About Reiki

A dance of golden light filtering through the branches of trees, like a sudden flight of birds, or the endless flow of a river, show us that our world is composed of limitless energy - Reiki.

Reiki (pronounced ray-key), a very simple and yet powerful practice, is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation.  It promotes energy healing for the whole body through the placement or “laying on of hands”.  The warmth and comfort of touch, leads to the awakening of the spirit and aids the graceful movements of the body.  Reiki supports one’s overall well-being.  It strengthens one’s natural ability to heal by restoring balance and the flow of positive energy throughout the body.  Techniques such as this have been practiced for thousands of years by people all over the world.  The only thing required of the individual who receives Reiki is to be open-minded and experience the pure positive energy and light of the practice.
The healing practice of Reiki helps the individual to become balanced on every level including physical, emotional, spiritual, and even social.  The placement of hands or light touch by the Reiki practitioner usually brings rapid relief of stress, anxiety, and pain.  It has also been said that Reiki helps to improve sleep, well-being, motivation, and mental clarity.  It is important to note that Reiki does not heal or attack disease so it is essential for individuals to seek and/or continue to receive medical advice and treatment.  However, Reiki combined with traditional or nontraditional medicine, helps and even strengthens the benefits received from other health interventions such as medication, surgery, chemotherapy, psychotherapy, physical therapy, etc.
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words:  Rei and Ki.  These Japanese ideograms have many levels of meaning.  So although the kanji character for Rei can be interpreted as universal, or present everywhere, a more meaningful and accurate interpretation is higher knowledge or spiritual consciousness.  This Rei is the wisdom that comes from God or the higher self, the God Consciousness, and it is all knowing.  It understands each person completely, knows the cause of all problems, the root of illness or difficulty, and how to bring individual healing.
Ki of the word Reiki means life energy, the universal or vital force present in all.  This is the nonphysical energy that animates all living things, flowing through them and surrounding them.  If the life energy is low or the flow blocked (due to sickness, anger, stress, grief, etc.), the body becomes vulnerable to illness.  When the life energy is high and flowing freely, the body is less likely to become ill.  Ki plays a most important role in our lives and in everything we do, not only in bringing life to the body, but also being the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts, and spiritual being.
Reiki is not religious or dogmatic.  It is instead a most beautiful combination of science and spirituality guided by the God Consciousness (Rei), and driven by vital life force energy (Ki), it can never do harm.  It knows what a person needs and adjusts itself for the greatest good of the individual.  One never need worry as to whether one should receive Reiki, for it is always helpful.
