What to expect

Upon arrival it is customary to remove your shoes before entering the designated Reiki space. This space has been cleared of all negative energies by the Reiki practitioner. It is important that you leave the outside world outside.

Before your Reiki session begins, you may want to share what you hope to achieve through Reiki, what your intentions may be, and if there is anything particular you wish to focus on. However, it is perfectly acceptable if you choose to keep your intentions private - Reiki will do its job nonetheless.

To begin your Reiki session you will be asked to lie face up on the Reiki table (similar to a massage table). If you cannot lie on the table due to physical conditions this is not a problem, you can always receive Reiki in a chair if need be. At this time the Reiki practitioner will ask you to simply place your intentions (either aloud or quietly to yourself), breathe fully and deeply, clear your mind of all negative thoughts and feelings, and remain open to the healing energy of Reiki that is about to come your way.

Traditionally, the Reiki practitioner will bring her hands to rest lightly upon various areas of the body, working systematically from the crown of the head toward the soles of the feet, supporting inner balance and awakening vital life force. Because traditional Reiki is practiced by the laying on of hands, it is very important to be honest with the practitioner about your feelings concerning touch. If you have an aversion to touch for any reason, this is not a problem. Reiki can be given by keeping the hands slightly raised from the body with the same wonderful results. Your comfort level and ability to relax are imperative for you to receive the full benefits of Reiki.

Quickly, you will notice a gentle shift toward relaxation. Breathing becomes slower as you become more comfortable and relaxation deepens. The experience of Reiki differs from person to person and treatment to treatment. Some report feeling a warm tingling where Reiki hands are placed, others may feel waves of subtle pulsations that flow through the body. Some say they do not experience any specific sensations, but a complete and total sense of relaxation and well-being overcomes them. Still, many simply have no words to describe the beautiful experience of Reiki. What typically is common in most who experience the healing practice is a diminishing of pain, a lessoning of anxiety and worry, and a deep sense of well-being, centeredness, and relaxation. People simply feel better about themselves, and that feeling of well-being is strengthened by each successive session of Reiki.

Please plan on arriving approximately fifteen minutes early to your first Reiki session. This will allow time to discuss any relevant medical information with the practitioner, and to fill out an emergency contact form.

Namaste.
